Looking Forward

hope

Sometimes the future may look bleak or dark or certainly uncertain. This assembly outline explores the hope of Christians!

Opening Activity: Looking forward to...a holiday?

Take a holiday brochure—tell them you are looking to book a holiday—where should you go? Where do they think you should go? Where would they go if they had the chance? Do any of them have any family or holidays or school trips to look forward to? It’s nice to have things to look forward to so that you know that even when things are difficult, or there is so much work to do, that there is something to look forward to, something nice that will happen, something to work towards.

Jesus gives us something to look forward to
Jesus came to us and he helped us to look at our own lives, which means looking back at what we have done to spoil things, and to see how we can put things right. But he also gives us so much to look forward to! In a packed square to thousands of young people in Manilla, Pope John Paul II said, ‘You are made to live with God for ever.’ Imagine that—all those young people with all their hopes, ambitions and dreams of the future, all those young people with their whole lives ahead of them, and he says’ You are made to live with God for ever.’

Jesus wants to spend eternity with us—he is our future!
That is why we are made—to live with God for ever. Our future is with Jesus - that is our hope—that is something to look forward to. He has given us a taste of the future, indeed we begin the future now! Jesus loves us so much that he wants to spend eternity with us! So whatever your plans are for the future, whether you think the future looks bright or bleak, remember that we are made to live with God forever—now that really is something to look forward to!!
